Family Home New Build
Three bedroom family home, Grenada Village, Wellington
Build two was involved in this three-bedroom new home build in Grenada Village from the very beginning, working alongside the clients from the initial concept through to final inspection and sign-off.
As both project manager and builder, our team provided practical advice through the design process, coordinating the plans, engineers and building consent application before starting construction.

Natural materials and energy efficiency
Abodo timber cladding is a standout feature of the home, providing a natural finish that complements the surrounding landscape. As a New Zealand-sourced timber product, it’s also a material choice that aligns with Build two’s preference for supporting local products where possible.
Energy efficiency was another important consideration. The timber framing was adapted to allow the insulation to form a largely continuous thermal blanket, helping reduce thermal bridging and improve the home's thermal performance. Double-glazed joinery and a heat pump system further contribute to a warm, comfortable and energy-efficient home.
Building on a Wellington hillside
The home was constructed using conventional timber framing on a challenging sloping site. The steep Wellington section required careful planning and coordination around foundations, structural elements, site access and material deliveries, while Wellington’s strong winds added another challenge to keep everyone on their toes.
Build two managed the build from start to finish, coordinating consultants, subcontractors and the construction programme, while keeping the project moving safely and efficiently despite the site conditions.
Open plan living and kitchen
The galley-style kitchen has a clean, contemporary feel, with warm timber cabinetry paired with crisp white benchtops.
A generous island bench incorporates the sink and provides plenty of preparation space, with a breakfast-bar overhang creating a natural connection to the living area. Full-height cabinetry along the opposite wall includes integrated appliances and provides additional storage.
Warm timber tones continue through the flooring, while white walls and minimalist lighting keep the space feeling light and modern. A black-framed stacker sliding door and windows add contrast and draw the eye towards the impressive Wellington hillside views.

Master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite
The master suite continues the home’s understated contemporary style, with clean white walls and simple recessed lighting creating a calm, uncluttered feel. The walk-in wardrobe combines shelving, drawers and hanging space to make the most of the available storage.
A black-tracked barn door provides a distinctive transition into the ensuite. Inside, warm timber cabinetry and a natural-toned tile floor is balanced by a striking deep green tiled shower wall, complete with a practical ledge for storage. The generous walk-in shower, wall-mounted vanity and black-framed window give the space a clean, modern feel while keeping it practical for everyday use.

From concept to completion
Being involved from the early design stage allowed Build two to provide practical advice before work began on site. This project is a good example of the value of close collaboration between homeowners, designers, engineers and builders.
The combination of careful planning, practical problem-solving and close communication helped Build two deliver a well-considered home that makes the most of its hillside setting and impressive outlook. Having great clients to work alongside made the project all the more rewarding.
